Introduction
You have been chosen to be part of a scientific advisement committee, which will help the mayor of the city of Auckland, New Zealand to decide what to do about Rangitoto, a volcano that has recently become active. Auckland’s population is about 401,500 in the center city with a total population of 1.25 million people.
You are on Level 3 alert which means you have two weeks until Rangitoto is set to erupt. You must be prepared for any volcanic hazards. REMEMBER: one volcanic eruption can set off volcanoes surrounding the larger eruption, so you must be prepared for smaller eruptions surrounding Rangitoto.

Report - in Canvas
Your team's job is to research various safety and evacuation measures and write a two page report explaining your plan to save the portion of Auckland that has been assigned to you in case of an eruption. You have one day to research and one day to design your map and write your report. The report should be written as though you are writing to the mayor of Auckland.
Map - in Canvas
You should also include a map of any special structures or measures you will need to build as part of your city protection system such as retaining walls, evacuation maps, etc. Remember to create a key so that anyone can read your map and know what each structure is.
REMEMBER: Include protection or evacuation from all of the hazards we discussed in class. Your class notes are another helpful resource in designing a good system to save the town.
Your report should be minimum 2 pages, typed and double spaced using the Google Doc in Canvas. It should explain your map and the structures and reasons for them. It should also include information about any evacuation routes you are going to use and why you chose them. The last paragraph of the paper should include information on a recent volcanic eruption (anywhere on Earth) and how your plan would need to be changed to be effective in that eruption.
The map should show evacuation routes and the locations of any features you may want to construct/place to protect property.

*Also use Google Maps or other online map services to take a look at what is located in the area of Auckland you have been assigned. There may be things there that could be useful for the task at hand or there may be things there that may make your plan more difficult.
